Conservation Reserve Program Sign-Up

usdaBrent Noell, County Executive Director of the New River Valley FSA Office would like to remind farmers and ranchers that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will conduct a four-week Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up beginning May 20 and ending on June 14.

DCP/ACRE Sign-Up Continues

fsaThe sign-up period for DCP and ACRE are still open. Producers are encouraged to sign up for DCP before the Aug. 2, 2013, deadline. An even earlier deadline is for ACRE, which will end June 3, 2013.The 2013 DCP and ACRE program provisions are unchanged from 2012, except that all eligible participants in 2013 may choose to enroll in either DCP or ACRE for the 2013 crop year. This means that eligible producers who were enrolled in ACRE in 2012 may elect to enroll in DCP in 2013 or may re-enroll in ACRE in 2013. Likewise producers who were enrolled in DCP may opt for ACRE enrollment.

FSA Complaint Process

COMPLAINT PROCESS:  After an FSA official makes a decision on your request for USDA services or application, you will be sent a letter informing you of the decision and options you can pursue if you disagree. Generally, program participants have four choices an informal review with original agency decision maker, an opportunity for mediation, appeal to State Committee and appeal to the USDA National Appeal Divison (NAD).

FSA Targets Funds for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers

farmerWomen and minority farmers interested in buying and operating family-sized farms may be eligible for loans from the Farm Service Agency, according to J. Calvin Parrish, the Virginia Farm Service Agency State Executive Director.

Virginia Agricultural Cost Share Program

cowsSkyline Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting sign-up for the Virginia Agricultural Best Management Practices Cost Share Program.  First round sign-up will end June 22, 2012.  The program offers up to 75% cost share for conservation practices, including but not limited to; grazing land protection, animal waste facilities, loafing lot systems, sinkhole cleanout, and cover crop planting. 01/28: Virginia Tech Beef Cattle Health Conference

beef cattleThe Virginia Tech Beef Cattle Health Conference will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. at the College of Veterinary Medicine on the campus of Virginia Tech. Attendance will meet the requirement for BQA recertification for those already certified in the Virginia Beef Quality Assurance program. 4-H Programs for February

4hMontgomery County 4-H has two exciting programs coming up in February. Our 4-H Veterinary Science workshop series will begin on February 6th at the school of Veterinary Medicine on Virginia Tech's campus. We are also starting our 2nd Junior Master Gardener Certification program for youth in grades 3 through 5.
