Christiansburg Police Department Dedicates Memorial Police Vehicle

Memorial Cruiser 1The Christiansburg Police Department unveiled their Memorial Police Vehicle in front of Christiansburg Town Hall today at 11 a.m.  The patrol vehicle is dedicated to the past, present, and future Americans who have courageously served their country. Members of the Army, Marines and Navy military branches were present at the dedication.

“This vehicle is a way for the Christiansburg Police Department to show our respect and admiration for the men and women who serve our country,” says Police Chief Mark Sisson.

The police cruiser is detailed in camouflage lettering, with depictions of the American flag and the flag raising at Iwo Jima.  All costs for detailing the patrol vehicle came from donated funds.

The vehicle will be utilized on routine patrol through the summer. It will also be displayed at future Memorial Day and July 4 events.

05/11: Lee's Trees

leestreesLois Weiss (Lee) Gilmore was passionate about two things: the New River Valley and trees.  After her death in April 2010, her daughters, Joanna Angle and Brenda Spangler, launched “Lee’s Trees” as a living memorial.

For a fourth year the sisters will distribute pink dogwood seedlings free to anyone willing to plant and nurture them. This year one hundred baby trees will be available, with a limit of one per person. The goal is to place ten thousand trees in the New River Valley by 2024, the 100th anniversary of “Lee’s” birth.

Benefits of this restoration include reducing flood risk and improving the water quality of the restored stream and Crab Creek at a reduced cost to the Town.
