Emmitt Rose Rucker, Jr. 67, of Pembroke, and lately of Heritage Hall, Blacksburg, departed this life Thursday evening, February 28, 2013 at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg. Born in Greenbrier, WV on June 27, 1945, he was a son of the late Arthena Gibson Shue and Emmitt Rose Rucker, Sr., and step-son of the late Allie Shue, Sr. For over 42 yrs he had been employed with housekeeping at Burruss Hall at Virginia Tech. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Ward Lewis and Little Emmitt Rucker, and daughter Sarah Jane Rucker. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Lena Whittaker Rucker; his son and companion David Rucker and Lyn Combs of Narrows; his daughters and sons-in-law Anna Lucille Shue of Blacksburg, Delores R. and Benny Williams of Newport, Pamela Lee and David Wingo of Roanoke; his sisters Viola Louise (Malcolm) of Narrows and Beulah Winters of Blacksburg; his brothers Albert Shue, Howard Shue, Charlie Shue, and Allie Shue of Pembroke; his four grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with burial following at the Lawson Cemetery near Pembroke.
