George Ralph Albert, 91 of Staffordsville, Va. passed away Tuesday evening, July 1, 2008 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, Va.
Mr. Albert was born on August 12, 1916 in Staffordsville, Va. and was a son of the late Riley Hoge Albert and Elsie Brooks Meadows Albert. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Winifred Johnston Albert and one son, Barry Wayne Albert. Mr. Albert was a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the Giles Historical Society, the Newburn Historical Society and the American Legion Post #68 in Narrows, American Legion Post #311 and VFW Post #6000 in Narrows. He is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws, Doris and Eddie Williams, of Dublin, Elsie and Bill Fern, of Mechanicsville, Va., Sonya and Boyce Falls, of Bullock, N.C.; one daughter-in-law, Dixie Lafon Albert, of Pearisburg; six grandchildren, Sheila Meadows, Dreama Shultz, Scarlett Williams, Misti Williams, Jason Falls and Jeremy Falls; two stepgrandchildren, Sherry Stafford, Charles Stafford; five great-grandchildren; and special caregivers, Sarah Eads and Stephanie Hudson. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating, with entombment following at the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Military Honors will be given by American Legion Post #68 in Narrows American Legion Post #311 and VFW Post #6000 in Narrows. Memorial donations may be made to the Giles Rescue Squad or the Giles Humane Society. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
