Mid County Park The largest park in Montgomery County at 110 acres, Mid-County is home to the Activity Center, the Frog Pond, Golden Hills Disc Golf Course, as well as an extensive nature trail system, and three shelters. The shelters near the Frog Pond share a detached rest room facility as well as a children?s playground. The shelters all have picnic tables, concrete floors, electricity, and grills. However, due to the condition of the land surrounding the shelter at Golden Hills, no outside grilling or open flames are permitted. This area was constructed on a former landfill and is potentially flammable. The nature trail system extends from the shelters near the Frog Pond approximately one and three fourths miles around the entire park. The trail system is divided into two linking loops. The closer loop is approximately three-fourths of a mile and the outer loop is approximately one mile. The entire trail system is currently being revitalized. New switchbacks, steps, and bridges are being constructed. Construction should be done just in time for warm-weather hiking! The Frog Pond The Frog Pond, Montgomery County?s only outdoor public pool, is a beach-entry leisure pool with water slides, fountains, and geysers. The tot?s pool beside the leisure pool provides enjoyment for children under five. The pool area contains locker rooms, public restrooms, a concession stand and an eating area. The Frog Pond opens yearly the first week of June and closes on Labor Day. The entire facility is available for rental. Golden Hills Disc Golf Course Golden Hills Disc Golf Course is the only eighteen-hole disc golf course in the region. The course boasts tight fairways with severe elevation changes throughout. The wooded area makes for a very challenging course. Monthly meetings of the Hillbilly Huckers Disc Golf Club as well as several amateur and professional tournaments are held here. Huckleberry Trail As a collaborative effort by Montgomery County, Blacksburg and Christiansburg, Huckleberry Trail is an asphalt-paved bike/pedestrian path constructed on the old Huckleberry Rail Line. The trail currently runs from the Blacksburg Public Library to the New River Mall in Christiansburg. The total distance from the library to the mall is 5.762 miles. Connections to the Hethwood Community in Blacksburg are currently being constructed and plans are underway for an eventual connection to the New River State Trail. School Athletic Sites In an agreement made with Montgomery County Public Schools, MCPR programs and maintains a variety of school athletic fields and facilities. MCPR primarily programs fields and facilities at Auburn, Elliston-Lafayette, Price?s Fork, and Shawsville Elementary Schools. Brand new dugouts and fencing were recently installed at Auburn and Shawsville Elementary Schools. Plum Creek Park Located in the western part of the County near the city of Radford, Plum Creek Park features a competition-level baseball/softball field, soccer fields, walking track, brand new playground equipment, and a restroom facility. The field is available for rental. McCoy Park Just a 15-minute drive from Blacksburg, McCoy Park features a youth baseball field, a picnic shelter, walking track, and brand new playground equipment. The shelter has picnic tables, concrete floors, and electricity. Both the field and shelter are available for rental. The shelter has picnic tables, concrete floors, electricity, and grills and is available for rental.
